Product Review and discount: Science in Sport - Immune Tablets

Disclaimer: I received by Science in Sport Immune tablets to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

Hi Everyone!

Hope are are all doing well!

I'm excited to announce that I am testing/reviewing Science in Sport Immune Tablets!
If you follow my blog training updates (and hopefully you do), you'll notice that I mention hydration and recovery often! I don't really specify vitamins and supplements, but I do take them as well. I take them to boost my immune system and for overall health and recovery. I know I may lack them in my daily food intake and try to make up for it a bit. Example beet root. Love beet root for it's recovery and overall health, but very rarely eat much of it. Same goes for Vitamin C. I eat some fruit/veggies and occasionally drink them, but definitely not enough.

Science in Sport Immune tablets are packed with Vitamin C, sodium (great for rehydration), iron, and beet root powder. Additional nutrition info later in the review.

Directions: Pretty simple. Drop one tablet in a serving of water, allow it to dissolve (dissolves pretty quickly!) I usually drink water room temp, but prefer this one on the rocks! (throw a few cubes in my to-go bottle as applicable).

Flavor/Taste: Orange. I find to be light orange/tangerine zesty flavor. Not  too sweet. With a very subtle diet aftertaste.

Did you know that "Heavy training is known to impact the immune system, suppressing it for 72 hours post-training. This can lead to a higher incidence of upper respiratory tract Infections, impacting an athletes health and their ability to train." Was sure to stay on top of this post long run and especially after my recent marathon!

Product Review: Science in Sport Hydro Tabs!

Disclaimer: I received an Science in Sport Hydro Tablets to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!
Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all doing well!

I am excited to announce that I have received Science in Sport Hydro Tablets to test!
Hydration is always important. It's easy to forget that during the winter, I am always sure to track my daily intake. But now that it's summer, we are experiencing heat waves and sevre humidity, logging more miles than ever before, it's even more important to stay on top of hydration!
Key feature that helps you meet your sodium requirement:
"During moderate to intense exercise, we can produce up to 2 litres of sweat per hour depending on the environmental conditions. Sweat contains vital electrolytes, including sodium. Sodium is the most important electrolyte as it helps to stimulate thirst, improve taste and promote absorption and retention."

Flavors I will be trying: Cola (which contains caffeine!), Lemon, and Pineapple Mango! Additional flavors available, here.

Cola: A refreshing cola taste without the syrup or carbonation. I do recommend drinking this one cold! (I usually drink water or electrolyte drinks at room temperature)
Video of a tablet dissolving. The orig run time was just over two minutes.
This is mighty fine on it's own, but as I was going to have an Iced Tea, I had the brilliant idea Arnold Palmering it up, nice touch!
Lemon on it's own is very refreshing. Light lemonade taste. Not an over powering/ or over puckering sour, and not overly sweet of sugar like another popular electrolyte brand. subtle diet drink aftertaste.
Was sure to pack my SIS Hydro tablets for my hiking trip!
Light Pineapple and Mango flavor. Again, not overly sweet or sugary. Refreshing. subtle diet drink aftertaste.
Nutritional Info: (below example of Pineapple Mango)

Usage:
With hydration being as important as it is right now, especially through these heat waves and humidity, I am staying on point! Prerun/midrun/post run. I hydrate first thing in the morning before stepping out the door for my 6am run. During my "long" runs, I am sure to hydrate at least once an hour, immediately post run, and then throughout the day to be ready to do all again tomorrow. I balance/alternate water and electrolytes when replenishing and these SYS HYDRO tablets have been doing the job for sure! And they aren't over sugary/sweet as some other electrolyte drinks. I preferred them served cold, for my long runs I was sure to have ice and/or a cooler. Definitely recommend!

Convenience: They are easy to travel with when on the go. Pack of  20 fits in a small pocket. Just toss one tablet in a drink bottle and go!

Product Review: Extreme Fit Compression Socks!

Disclaimer: I received an Extreme Fit Compression Socks to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all doing well!

I am excited to announce that I am testing Extreme Fit compression socks!
Benefits include some of the below (varies by sock style). I'm currently running more miles than ever, can definitely appreciate the benefits! Assist with blood flow recovery, help prevent cramps, etc!

Benefits & Features:
  • Circulation support to fight Reduced Injury, Swelling, and Fatigue.
  • Improve venous blood flow. Stimulates blood flow
  • Prevent varicose veins
  • Stimulates oxygen delivery to muscles.
  • Prevents lactic acid production and cramping.
  • Keeps your feet dry and minimizes blisters.
  • Provides for a full range of motion and joint flexibility.
  • Prevents recurrence of thrombosis of lymphedema after surgery.
  • Anti-bacterial properties to promote foot health.
  • Protect your legs from small scratches.
Low Cut: The first pair that I tried were the low cut Ultra V-Stripe compression socks. I typically wear a moisture wicking low cut sock, with the occasional compression sleeve. Starting my trial with a low cut sock for my weekly long run. I felt the snugginess around my fat feet at first, but barely notice them shortly thereafter. The socks may be thinner than my usual socks, felt more space in my shoes, had to tighten them up (already needed to, but they were even more loose now. lol). It's been humid here (to say the least), my feet were able to breath, some dampness to be expected, but were not that bad. My feet felt good throughout my run, and no blisters!
Compression Sleeve: I did enjoy the compression sleeve, felt good on my shins and my calves. I am currently experiencing shin splints, they provided relief, as well as preventing cramps. One thing worth noting, they are longer than the typical calf sleeve. They went below my ankles to my low ankle socks.
Several styles to choose from!
Themed socks! They also have themed options to choose from. I went with a pair of coffee and a pair of pizza! I live on coffee, and pizza is one my fav carb load meals the night before my long run! Pic below, my feet and legs felt good throughout my morning run!
Reflective!: Safety feature! They have at least three pairs to choose from that are Run + Reflective!
I typically run in the dark throughout winter. Additional reflective gear is always great! You'll already be wearing socks, right? An added function without additional gear to carry!
Recovery: Since compression socks are also great for recovery, I have been wearing a fresh pair post run. Occasionally during work, and usually towards the end of the day when I'm really in recovery mode. They feel good to lounge around in, and when taking them off for the night, my legs feel refreshed! Other recovery recommendations, they are great for blood flow when traveling!
Quote from the Travel Channel:
"While the risk of developing blood clots on a flight is low, it goes up as travel time increases. Enter compression socks. Yes, really. ... These stockings help increase circulation and reduce the risk of swelling or worse deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and clotting on a long flight."

Additional disclaimer: I am in no way qualified to provide medical advice. lol.. But I can confirm I did not experience any cramps or blisters during any of my runs while wearing Extreme Fit compression socks. I may be experiencing overall fatigue due to my increased miles and summer conditions, but my legs definitely feel the benefits of Extreme Fit Compression socks, especially for recovery!

Product Review: Built Bar Protein and Energy Bars, Yum!

Disclaimer: I received an Built Bar Protein and Energy Bars to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

Hi Everyone! I hope you are doing well!

I am excited to announce that I'm "sampling" Built Bar Protein and Energy Bars!

I've received three boxes to review and enjoy! They are high in protein, made with 100% real chocolate, gluten free, no artificial flavoring, coloring or preservatives.
Coconut Almond - I definitely enjoyed these. Disclaimer, I am not a fan of coconut in general, more of a texture thing. These do have a few pieces of coconut in there, but i didn't mind it. And I am slightly allergic to almonds (numb my mouth just a bit), but I enjoy them in small doses. Don't do as I do, lol.. These were pretty good! Great combination!
Peanut Butter (my weakness! I could literally live on peanut butter!) Dark Chocolate and 100% real organic Peanut Butter, yum!
Mixed box that has 9 flavors! (x2), No Nuts!
The fruit options, remind me of fruit dipped in chocolate fondue, had me popping champagne bottles! (I kid, but it would go nicely with champagne, red wine or a stout/porter beer!)
  • Great chocolate fruit options!
  • Banana Chocolate Creme
  • Black Cherry
  • Raspberry Chocolate Creme
  • Orange Chocolate Creme
  • Mint Brownie - If you like thin mint cookies, you'll love these!
  • Double Chocolate Mousse - my other dessert weakness Chocolate Mousse, so decadent! Chocolate filling in a dark chocolate bar, yum!
  • Salted Caramel Chocolate - Great balance of Salt, Caramel and Chocolate! Salty and sweet is such a great combo!
  • Coconut Chocolate Creme
  • Vanilla Chocolate Creme - cant go wrong with chocolate and vanilla!
You can also build your own box! (18 bars, 3 flavors)

These have been the perfect snack for me. My breakfast is light, I definitely need a healthy snack to hold be over until lunch. Or any other time that I need a small bite before my next meal. ;) High in protein, low in calories. Portable, convenient, and taste great. Dark chocolate, which is my preferred chocolate! (if dark chocolate isn't your thing, they may not be for you, definitely dark, yum!) and several great flavors to choose from. They are fluffy/chewy, a bit sticky, but not too sticky. Some of my other BibRavePro's have also enjoyed them frozen (which also reduces the stickiness)

Product Review: Dropping FBOMB's left and right!

Disclaimer: I received an FBOMB nut butters by Fat Is Smart Fuel to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

Hi Everyone!

I'm excited to announce that I'm testing FBOMB Macadamia Nut Butters by Fat Is Smart Fuel.
  • Flavors: I'll be testing, from Left to Right:
    • Macadamia Pecan with Sea Salt
    • Macadamia with Coconut
    • Salted Chocolate Macadamia
    • Macadamia with Sea Salt
Nutritional details below: Healthy fats, carbs, sodium that athletes crave

Ways to enjoy:
These are great on their own. (Who isn't guilty of eating peanut butter by the spoon (I know I am!)? This is even better!) They are also great as a dip or spread. So many options!

As a spread or dip: Some awesome combo's me and my other BibRavePro's have tried:
Fruit: bananas, apples, strawberries, smoothies, I'm sure there's more!
Veggies: celery. (not sure what other veggie would go well with a nut butter?)

With other Snacks/Meals: waffles, pancakes, toast, oatmeal, granola, smoothies, pretzels, animal crackers (I usually eat pretzels or animal crackers as a lunch snack. I usually dip in plain pb or hazlenut spread, but this takes it to another level!) I also tried as a topping to an almond cookie, yum! I bet these would go well on ice cream as well! So diverse!
My rankings:
These are my personal preferences, nothing to do with the product. I would do with the Nut Butter with Sea Salt first, then the Salted Chocolate Macadamia. Both are excellent, but I eat slightly less chocolate than nut butters. Don't get me wrong, the chocolate is a nice treat. I just eat a lot more of nut butters. The other 2 flavors were good, but I do not eat much coconut or pecans, but that's just me.
  • Summary:
  • Great source for natural energy boost/fuel
  • Convenient - serving size pouch, great for packing your meal or on the go.
  • Great on it's own
  • Diverse: goes great with other favorite snacks/meals!
  • PALEO AND KETO friendly!
Discount: Use code "BRP10" for 10% off FBOMB Nut Butter Variety Pack (16-Count)!

Summer Fueling: Try SiS!

Disclaimer: I received SiS gels to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all doing well!

I am excited to announce that I'm testing Science in Sport energy gels! As you all know, fueling and hydration are very important. Summer time, fueling and hydration are even more important as the heat and humidity gets worse, almost unbearable at times. The timing of this campaign works out great for me. I'm currently training for an end of summer marathon and then a half marathon, so I will be ramping up the miles through the hottest part of the year. Who's bright idea was that? lol... Good times, but I digress. Am looking forward to trying these out on my "long" run days!

One of the key advantages that SiS gels have, are they don't require water to wash them down! Not pasty like another gel brand. (does not require water to take, you should still hydrate as needed)

Taste: they aren't candy like, like some other gels, they are more natural tasting. Additional flavor profiles to be provided.

Nutrition info: I'm not a scientist/nutritionist or claim to be. The carbohydrate, caffeine, sodium, magnesium, details etc are attached within the the flavor links.

Flavors: that I will be sampling below (more options on their site)
Energy:
Apple - GO Isotonic Energy
Double Espresso - Go Energy + Double Caffeine

Electrolyte:
Lemon + mint - GO Energy Electrolyte
Salted Strawberry - GO Energy Electrolyte

Opinion: my thoughts on the flavors
Double Espresso: my favorite! Mixed reviews on this one, but I was a big fan of this one! As you may know, I love coffee, and these are very coffee like and contains caffeine!

Apple: light, refreshing, almost like a light applesauce.

Lemon +Mint: A little sweeter than expected, not too tart. Like a sweet lemonade with a hint of lime.

Salted Strawberry: almost like a strawberry jam taste, but not too sweet, the salt is a nice touch as your sweating it out and need to replenish!

My trial period is over the course of about 2 months, plus a few extra ;).  Some of my weekly long runs have been up to 3 plus hours. I typically fuel about every 45 minutes. I have found that these have helped meet my fueling needs along the way. I have also on occasion taken them on a shorter mid week training day, where I was a bit tired before heading out, helped with an extra boost to get me going!
Since some of the gels contain electrolytes, I have found it's great to alternate doses along the course of a long run day. As I would with fluids in a long race, alternating between water and the electrolyte drink that is provided.

One concern I have when trying a new fuel, tummy issues. I am happy to say, I didn't experience any tummy issues. But what works for one may not work for all. We are all different and have different reactions.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck to everyone training, be sure to fuel  and hydrate properly (always) but especially during the summer. Be safe out there!

Free fuel: I'm also hosting a contest on my facebook page, giving away a six pack of gels to two lucky winners. Be sure to check out my facebook post.

Product Review: Runderwear - Team Undie: Don't let chafing happen to you!

Disclaimer: I received Runderwear Boxer Briefs as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Hi Everyone!

I am excited to announce that I'll be testing Runderwear boxer briefs.

Before getting started..

Personal question.. Team Commando or Team Undie?! Before this campaign I had no idea there was so many commandos out there! Apparently there's a lot of you out there all willy nilly. Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Kramer starts going commando. lol, but I digress...

These are performance underwear, designed with/for runner's/athletes in mind.

They are moisture wicking, breathable, and guaranteed not to chafe!

Specs: from the Runderwear site:
  • The Runderwear Men’s Boxer Briefs for running are designed to ensure you can enjoy all your running adventures chafe-free, with maximum support and in ultimate comfort. Features include:Ultimate Comfort - created using an incredibly soft fabric, which is label-free to prevent irritation, rubbing and chafing mile-after-mile. Ergonomically designed to move with your body for ultimate comfort.
  • Seamless Design - 360 degree seamless design resulting in no side seams for ultimate comfort and chafe-free running. Flatlock fine-stitching means that edges are flat, eliminating irritation and rubbing. Moisture-Wicking Fabric - the technical fabric is lightweight, label-free and designed to effectively wick sweat away from your skin, eliminating any irritation and ensuring you keep dry and can run chafe-free.
  • Breathable - uses high performance moisture-wicking fabric with mesh panels containing micro perforations to increase breathability and sweat removal from your skin, ensuring your core temperature is optimised.
  • Lightweight Durability – lightweight technical fabric which is highly-durable, washes-well and dries quickly.   -Runderwear
My trial:

Pre run:
Upon receiving them, first thing I notice is how soft they are. They are so soft!
They appear to be small, but the material (92% polvamide/8% Elastine) stretches a bit!
Around the leg holes there is an elastic band with a rubberish band on the inside of the front side. (assuming to prevent riding up).
Trying on, I felt the band initially, but after wearing them for a few seconds, you don't even notice!
Running:
Soft, lightweight and comfortable. Barely notice they are there!

Post Run:
A few runs in (including a marathon training run), I am very happy to report, no chafing! Thank Goodness!
The creator of Runderwear even recommends that if you wear running shorts with liners, cut the liners out and wear Runderwear in there! No point in wearing liners and underwear when the Runderwear are better than liners!
